Team training to stop animal abuse

All my life I've been passionate about animals. I can't think of a better way to honor my love of animals than running with the Peta Pack & raising money & awareness to stop animal abuse. While I enjoy surfing and other athletics, I'm not a runner. This will require training and commitment on my part but I know I can do it with the love & support of my fellow animal lovers. I'm also running in honor of my dear departed diggity Crystal (video tibute posted here), as well as some very special animals I've had the privilege to know over the years - Spider, Spunky, Splinter, Conan, Huck, Sandy, Toby, Redbone, Prince, Spenser, Tracker, Jake, Streak, Rusty, Sam, Be-B, Dixie, Trixie, Clarisse, Churchill, Star, Dickens, Oski, Bubba & Bogus.

Thanks so much for your time & consideration...Jamie

To Shoe or Not to Shoe
So I'm about to start training and the first thing I think is that I need a good pair of shoes. Those that know me know I practically live in flip flops and when not wearing those I'm usually barefoot. My feet feel so unnatural in shoes, like they are suffocating. So the thought of finding/training with new shoes seems like a drag. Then lo & behold I stumble upon the whole minimalist/barefoot running movement. This resonates with me & reminds me of a run I tried years ago. Crystal (my dog) & I used to hike a place called Elk Meadow in Colorado pretty much every weekend. It was a loop trail about 5 miles long. One day I was inspired to run the trail. It was incredible. It was the only time in my life that while running I entered into a zen like state. All of a sudden I felt my breathing become normal & I literally felt like I could run forever. It was amazing. I was wearing Teva sandals, not running shoes. Maybe I was on to something...
